Magnetar UDP900 MKII 4K UHD Blu-ray Player with Dual ESS9038PRO DACs

The MKII update to the Magnetar UDP900 is all about refining what already worked and pushing performance a clear step further. It now carries full Roon Ready certification and a completely redesigned audio stage built around dual ESS9038PRO DACs, delivering even greater resolution and musical finesse. HDMI audio benefits from TMDS retiming for cleaner signal integrity, while the enhanced USB 3.0 system features isolated power and XMOS support for ultra-high-resolution playback up to PCM 768kHz and DSD512. Upgraded copper wiring with high-quality Amphenol and JST connectors improves internal signal paths, and thoughtful system integration hasn’t been overlooked either, with Control4 and Crestron support plus Wake-Up on LAN making the UDP900 MKII easier to live with in a modern high-end setup.

The Magnetar UDP900 MKII is built with a high-quality, 6-layer gold immersion PCB design, using an ultra-precise, low-noise TCXO temperature-compensated crystal oscillator, giving it an edge over the UDP800 MKII’s already impressive power supply. Murata’s multilayer ceramic capacitors, TDK magnetic components, and 30 NCC electrolytic capacitors enhance both audio and video performance. The audio boards feature a 4-layer PCB with independent wiring for each channel, fitted with high-precision TCXO oscillators, ELNA, NCC audio capacitors, along with Red WIMA and ELNA SILMIC II capacitors. It also comes with an independent, high-powered linear power supply module with Hi-Fi XLR balanced terminals and gold-plated RCA outputs, delivering superior audiophile-level sound.

Premium Build Quality

The UDP900 MKII is an imposing yet beautifully styled component, measuring 445 x 133 x 321 mm and weighing in at a substantial 15.4 kg. It sports a robust all-aluminium alloy body, reinforced with a double-layer chassis for added stability. Internal components are housed in a metal shield to minimise vibrations, noise, and interference from external magnetic fields, ensuring pristine audio and video clarity.

Outstanding Picture and Sound Quality

Supporting Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for superior dynamic range, the UDP900 MKII delivers incredible visuals. It’s also equipped with dual ESS9038PRO DACs to handle audio output for 2-channel XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced outputs as well as the 7.1 RCA outputs. There’s even an XMOS USB audio input for added versatility.

Supports a Wide Range of Media and Connections

The UDP900 MKII is compatible with a variety of disc formats, including 4K UHD BD, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD, and CD-R/RW. With USB 3.0 support, it can handle external drives up to 16TB, and DLNA, SMB, and NFS protocols let you share video, music, and photos easily. It supports a wide array of media formats like MKV, AVI, MP4, WAV, FLAC, APE, and DSD, so you can effortlessly manage and play files stored locally or across your network.

Dual Power Supply Design

A 60W toroidal transformer powers the analogue audio, with an imported magnetic core, oxygen-free copper wiring, metal shielding, and epoxy filling to keep vibrations, noise, and heat in check. Alongside there is a 60W switch mode power supply making sure the digital section gets all the clean power it requires. This thoughtful design improves both power efficiency and overall audio quality.

Why Choose The Magnetar UDP900 MKII

The Magnetar UDP900 MKII feels like a statement piece that’s been sharpened rather than reinvented, taking everything that made the original great and dialling it up with real intent. In use, it’s effortlessly confident: discs load smoothly, streaming slots neatly into a Roon-based system, and there’s a sense of calm authority to both the sound and picture that you notice straight away. The redesigned audio stage with dual ESS9038PRO DACs brings a touch more grip, texture and refinement, while the upgraded clocking, TMDS HDMI retiming and isolated USB with XMOS support give high-resolution music a cleaner, more precise edge. Under the hood, the serious PCB work, quality capacitors and dual power supply design aren’t just audiophile box-ticking — they translate into a richer, more composed presentation whether you’re running balanced XLRs, 7.1 analogue, or pure digital. Add the tank-like aluminium build, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ visuals, broad disc and file support, plus proper Control4 and Crestron integration, and the UDP900 MKII comes across as unapologetically high-end: bold, beautifully engineered, and built to anchor a serious home cinema or two-channel system for years to come.
