Castle Compact Centre Speaker

This design has been created to fulfil two distinct but complimentary roles within the Compact System alternatives. In the majority of applications its use will be primarily as a traditional centre channel speaker however it has also been designed to fulfil the role of all the front speakers when used in a Left, Centre, Right (L.C.R.) combination. When used in this way it will offer increased power handling and hence increased maximum sound pressure levels in room. As with the Compact Satellite the Centre L.C.R. cabinet is constructed from 15mm MDF board fully veneered on both sides to offer excellent stiffness. All internal walls then have a layer of bituminous damping applied to further reduce unwanted resonance. The Compact Centre L.C.R. is fitted with the same drive units as the Compact Satellite, a 19-mm soft dome tweeter and in this implementation two 110mm bass-mid units. The tweeter is a 19mm (3/4-inch) fabric dome with neodymium magnet assembly; this unit, despite its small size, has been developed to have a large radiating area, ensuring optimum dispersion characteristics. This design has also been optimised for extended high frequency output and is one of the few capable of performance up to 40kHz, making it an ideal tweeter for use with DVD-A and SACD source material. The 110mm (41/2-inch) bass-mid unit has been Klippel optimised and features a woven glass fibre material offering good internal damping, smooth response and excellent dynamic capability that is so required in modern AV speakers. The unit also features a four-layer voice coil, offering extended power handling and a magnet assembly featuring a copper cap on the pole for maximum dynamics and an aluminium ring to compensate for induction variances. These last two design items are normally only found in drive units costing significantly more the Castle Compact Satellite. The reasoning behind the decision to use two rather than just one bass-mid unit is to increase both the power handling and dynamic range. It also has allowed our design team to optimise the dispersion characteristics of this speaker making it the ideal speaker for use in AV or indeed multi-channel music applications.
