Revolutionise your music-streaming experience with this mobile amplifier

Do you use a smartphone or laptop to listen to your music?

If you do, and often feel rather unimpressed by the sound quality your smartphone or laptop produces, then you need to hear about Questyle Audio Engineering’s new mobile headphone amplifier – the M12.

The Questyle M12 is tiny, virtually weightless, and uses an incredibly high-quality DAC, along with Questyle’s own patented ‘Current Mode’ amplifier. The M12 is guaranteed to drastically improve your listening experience, and functions equally as well, whether it is playing through your headphones or your Hi-Fi system, which I will go into further detail about in the next section.

Smartphone

I use an iPhone and the connection was very easy to make – this little device just sits in between your smartphone and your headphones, connected by a lightning to Type-C OTG cable (for iPhones) and your headphones’ cable. Of course, with the newer iPhones, there is limited opportunity to listen to great sound with wired headphones as there is no headphone output provided, and the adapter cable’s DAC is not exactly high-resolution! This makes the M12 perfect.

I have Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music, Simple Radio, and some radio station apps such as ‘Magic 1278’ on my smartphone. With these services, I have tried several different headphone brands and models, including ‘OPPO’ and ‘Bowers & Wilkins’, which all differ in impedances. The M 12 has the ability to automatically detect and select the right load impedance, meaning that very high volumes can be achieved, no matter what brand or model of headphones you are using. So, whether you like your music played softly or loud, the choice is yours. For the technically minded, this unit does not only automatically adjust the gain, but also switches to the correct codec – PCM, DSD or MQA; just plug and play.

After having tested the unit with headphones, I connected my iPhone to my Hi-Fi system via the M12 and my amplifier’s RCA Auxiliary input. Tidal sounded incredible, and I was blown away by the high-fidelity sound coming from Magic 1278, a radio station.

If you use an Android phone, you will be pleased to find that the beautiful packaging includes all the cabling you will need to make the connection. If you use an iPhone, you will need to buy a lightning to Type-C OTG cable, as it is not provided in the box (+$30).

Laptop

The next step in my trial was to connect the M12 to my laptop and test the quality of the sound reproduction coming from platforms such as Apple Music and Amazon. Again, the results were outstanding.

Perfect Compatibility

M12 is fully compatible with Android 5.1 and above systems on popular smart phones and tablets. For PC, it supports Mac OS and Windows 10 version 18.3 and above with no additional driver installation required.

An Absolute Must-Have

If you use a smartphone or laptop to listen to music, the Questyle M12 is an absolute must-have. No more will you need to worry about the tonal quality of the bass, treble, or midrange – just beautiful music as it was meant to be heard.
